CT-CAD
The CT-CAD technology
incorporates surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensors for the detection and
identification of chemical vapors. These vapors can consist of toxic
industrial pollutants or chemical weapons agents. Configurations of
this technology include its incorporation into handheld devices and UAV
applications.
The principle of operation of the device is as follows.
The sensing probe consists of a piezoelectric substrate that is coated
with a coating specific to the target detection chemicals. The target
chemicals are sorbed to the coating, thus changing the mass. This
change of mass causes a change in the resonant frequency of the probe.
The frequency change can be measured with appropriate electronics.
